My Whole 30 Experience – week two

I could not settle on a subject to write about this week mostly because this week went by so fast I didn’t even realize that it was Sunday.

Everyone in my life knows that I am doing the Whole30 with my coworkers as a Team build, everywhere I went this week people asked me “how are you doing on that diet thing and what do you eat?” at first the very nosy question irritated me, my first thought was mind your own business. I am not some case study! But I finally realized that people are looking for hope! No one wants to be sick and tired but they are stuck in the rut of food addictions and they can’t see a way out or how to make a change.
After much thought I realized that a renewed Energy was the major factor in me getting through this week!

First off I have been sleeping so much better, I have always been the person that needed 8-10 hours of sleep every night, but this week I have actually been sleeping 7 hours a night (that is un-heard of for me) when I get up I don’t feel groggy and I have little to no back pain. On top of that I have been able to get up every morning at 4:30am and get to the gym, which is a major accomplishment in itself. I have had NO cravings this week at all. I even went out on a date and didn’t cheat! I didn’t want to feel bad in the morning so I was motivated to stay the course yet again!

My pitfalls this week: I consumed too many nuts
I have bought a lot of groceries! (Two people in my house are doing the whole30) Stocking up on some long-lasting staples like olive oil and coconut oil is like buying gold; we also had to buy some pretty expensive things like almonds, cashews and walnuts to keep on hand. In addition, we stuck mostly to free-range and grass-fed meat, which doesn’t come cheap.

On top of all of that, I have been going to the grocery store very often. In fact, we were there at least twice every week, Fresh produce doesn’t stay fresh long, and we really couldn’t eat out, so we had to make sure we kept meals on hand.

I am a little afraid to add up all our food costs at the end of the month.
Even though we are buying “expensive foods” and we bought them often, I think that I will have spent less than I do in a typical month. This is because we didn’t eat out at all and I haven’t bought a bottle of wine. We also didn’t buy many pre-packaged foods, which tend to drive up the total bill in a hurry. So even though we were buying more expensive food more often we are saving our health

Overall I am starting too really like the idea of this program which is;
“A short-term nutritional reset, designed to help you put an end to unhealthy cravings and habits, restore a healthy metabolism, heal your digestive tract, and balance your immune system.” Cleaning out the foods in your diet that may cause some serious health issues by cutting them out and possibly gaining some added energy and a healthy gut sounds perfect!
