STEP 1

Real food starts with real farmers. We work with self-sustaining family farms because they’re good stewards of their land, and they feel the ethical obligation to provide their pigs with a comfortable life.

STEP 2

Not only do they raise their pigs right, but they also grow the grain used to feed those pigs. It allows for a higher quality, well monitored feed free of animal by-products.

STEP 3

They are housed in open pens with deep bedding and room to romp, frolic and engage in natural behavior.

STEP 4

With no growth hormones or antibiotics, our pigs grow slower than those at industrial “farms”, and we’re quite alright with that. It’s a better life for the pigs and produces the best pork we’ve ever eaten.

STEP 5

Our pork bellies are never dipped or injected with anything… no brine solutions, no liquid smoke, no curing solutions… ever. We use real, natural seasonings just like mom would do but on a much larger scale.

STEP 6

Next, we smoke the bellies using real wood chips. A smoky flavor should be created by actually smoking the meat instead of faking it with liquid smoke.

STEP 7

Our final step is to slice the chilled bellies into bacon strips and package it.

So, we took what we do best (bacon) and built a wildly successful charity event around it.

MEET THE WORLD’S LARGEST BACON COOK OFF: BACON BASH TEXAS

Bacon Bash Texas originated in 2012 as an avenue for Pederson’s Natural Farms to raise contributions and awareness for causes close to the heart of their community. We give back through Bacon Bash Texas in the following ways:

 

  • Niki Warms the Cold, a charity born in memory of Cranfills Gap native Niki Carlson. Funds are used to purchase blankets and coats to be distributed in the winter. Additionally, Bacon Bash Texas hosts a coat and blanket drive.
  • Fully funded scholarships for sending children with Type 1 Diabetes to specialized diabetes camps.
  • Help provide funding to families for a Dexcom Continuous Glucose Monitoring System. This system allows remote monitoring of a Type 1 Diabetes patient’s glucose levels and alerts a parent when the child’s levels become dangerous.

 

The Pederson’s Natural Farms team makes up over 50 percent of the volunteer staff for the event, we donate both financially and by contributing over 750 pounds of bacon for the cook-off, and we feature the winning team’s recipe and bio on the back of over 40,000 packages of bacon distributed nationwide. Additionally, we have several representatives on the Bacon Bash Texas Board of Directors. But, the best part is when we get to hand over tens of thousands of dollars to charity! None of it would be possible without our cook-off teams, ticket holders, volunteers, and sponsors. Together, we are making strides in supporting our community and assisting children with Type 1 Diabetes.
